Correlation With Occipital Lobe Infarcts

چکیده
The occipital branches of the posterior cerebral artery were examined in 31 human brains. The authors determined the origin, course, and region of supply of each occipital branch: the parietooccipital, calcarine, posterior temporal, and common temporal arteries, as well as the lingual gyrus artery. These vessels were found in all the brains examined except the lingual gyrus artery, which was present in only 8.3%. The occipital branches were noted to supply variable cortical regions. In addition, they sometimes took part in irrigation of deep forebrain structures. It was concluded that occlusion of a certain occipital artery may cause varying clinical signs and symptoms in different patients. The neurologic deficits that may occur following the isolated occlusion of individual occipital branches of the posterior cerebral artery are discussed. (Stroke 1987;18:728-732)

Representation of the visual field in the human occipital cortex: a magnetic resonance imaging and perimetric correlation.
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the retinotopic map of the human occipital cortex by correlating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings with visual field defects in patients with occipital lobe infarcts and to assess the compatibility between our cliniconeuroimaging findings and the location of lesions predicted by the classic Holmes map and a revised map. METHODS Magnetic resonance images were obt...
متن کاملTransient post-traumatic cortical blindness due to bilateral occipital lobe infarcts in a multiply-injured patient: A case report
Cortical blindness as a sequelae of trauma has been reported in the literature but its pathophysiology remains unknown. We report a case of transient post-traumatic cortical blindness as a result of bilateral occipital lobe infarcts in a multiply injured patient after a 6-storey fall from height. We discuss the possible aetiologies for our patient’s condition and reviewed the relevant literatur...
متن کاملReversible homonymous hemianopia secondary to occipital lobe seizures
Occipital lobe infarcts, hemorrhages, or metastatic tumors can present with complex visual hallucinations, sensory or proprioceptive abnormalities, speech dysfunction, visual loss, and homonymous hemianopia (HH). Treatment of occipital lobe seizures is by single or multiple antiepileptic drugs. We present a case of idiopathic occipital lobe epilepsy where the seizures were controlled by antiepi...

متن کاملBilateral Cortical Blindness due to Bilateral Occipital Infarcts without Anosognosia
Cerebral blindness is defined as bilateral loss of vision secondary to disruption in the visual pathways posterior to the lateral geniculate nuclei [1]. Cortical blindness, a particular type of cerebral blindness, is defined as the total loss of vision in the presence of normal pupillary reflexes and in the absence of ophthalmological disease [2], resulting from bilateral lesions of the striate...
